Low TSH Levels

Meaning of Low TSH Levels

The meaning of low TSH levels needs to be understood as this is a measure of the function of thyroid gland. In order to understand the connection between TSH levels and thyroid function, you need to know the basic definition of TSH. TSH, or thyroid stimulating hormone, is secreted by the pituitary gland for activating the thyroid gland. Based on this activation, the thyroid gland releases its hormone in defined quantities. Since the TSH levels are determined by gauging the amount of thyroid hormones in blood, low TSH levels mean that there is excessive thyroid hormone flowing in the blood stream. Due to this, the pituitary gland maintains a low TSH level so as to bring down the thyroid hormone level to normal.
